Urban Foresty

By the year 2030, only a fraction of the worlds forest will be left at the current rate of cutting. An OSU Extension program is studying ways to make the urban forest more sustainable and efficient.

Why Trees Matter

The Ohio State University Extension Why Trees Matter Signature Program is a multi-disciplinary program focusing on the ecological, economic and social benefits of trees. This program is tailored for Ohio and Great Lakes area citizens, community officials and foresters, and the green industry (an over $10 billion industry in Ohio with over 100,000 employees).

Our partners include OSU researchers, Extension educators and specialists, Master Gardener and Certified Naturalist volunteers, state agencies including the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, green industry companies, from nurseryman to landscapers to arborists and tree care companies such as Ohio’s own Davey Tree Expert Company, the largest tree care company in the world, and partners from universities and the United States Forest Service throughout the United States.
