OSU Kindness Food Insecurity Project
The 2022 theme of Ohio’s monthlong Urban October campaign was “Celebrating Our Urban-Rural Connections—Where We Live, Work, Play, Learn, and Serve.”
As part of that service, Ohio State students, staff, faculty, alumni, volunteers, and families are involved in providing free meals to those struggling with food insecurity. Ohio State’s Office of Student Life led an effort for over 600 volunteers to package 175,000 meals through Kids Around the World. The meals were delivered to southeast Ohio via Ohio State’s football tractor trailer and were distributed through OSU Extension and local community partners. West Virginia University packed meals on the same day and participated in a meet-up with OSU Extension at the Williamstown Bridge along the Ohio riverfront.
